Felony Reduced to Misdemeanor

August 2020

Another good day in Court for one of our clients. Today, we represented a young person who stood accused of possessing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA, 2-COOH-THC). Being Schedule I drugs under our current regime of laws and classifications, that meant our client faced prosecution for Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. If convicted, they faced up to three (3) years in prison and a $100,000 fine. We negotiated a plea to misdemeanor possession of marijuana for no jail time and no fine. Our client will give the Court three (3) clean screens for drugs and alcohol over the next three months, and then their probation will terminate, and no conviction will be placed on their record.
