Smyrna Municipal Court

City of Smyrna Municipal Court

The City of Smyrna Municipal Court is located at 2800 King Street, Smyrna, GA 30080. The Clerk of Court can be reached at 770-434-6600. Chief Judge Phyllis Gingrey Collins presides over the Traffic Court Division. Judge Joel Pugh presides over the Environmental Court Division. Attorney Tim Williams is the Solicitor (aka Prosecutor) in both Courts. The Environmental Court Clerk is Cardi McManus and can be reached at 770-431-2804.

Many traffic citations issued by the Smyrna Police Department can be paid on-line. However, those people who wish to contest their ticket, or others facing more serious charges (i.e., reckless driving, DUI/DWI, no insurance, misdemeanor marijuana possession, shoplifting, etc.) will have to appear in Traffic Court, or hire an attorney to appear on their behalf. While the Court holds non-jury trials before the Judge, also called a bench trial, jury trials must be "bound up" or removed to Cobb County State Court.  Ordinance violations issued by Community Development's Code Enforcement pertaining to property maintenance, animal control and other environmental degradation matters, are set before the Environmental Court.

Though a city court, the sentences it may impose often involve lengthy jail time and/or probation, fines can be very high, and constant drug and alcohol screening invasive and burdensome. Therefore, a person facing charges in Smyrna Municipal Court should consult with a knowledgeable lawyer before appearing in Smyrna Municipal Court. The more serious the charge, the more serious the penalty, and the more you are likely to need a lawyer's assistance. Contact traffic and criminal defense attorney Alan J. Levine at Georgia DUI & Criminal Defense, Inc. to set up a free consultation to discuss your case.
